About Open Air Publishing
Who We Are
Hi there! We're Open Air Publishing, a tight-knit team of business, tech, and creative types who believe compelling content can be more than just words on a page. We also like snacks a lot.
What We Do
We produce original, how-to e-books designed exclusively for touchscreen devices like the iPad and iPhone. Our books allow readers to master new skills through touch, sight, and sound, guided by our extensive network of experts. Each title in our growing library is crafted to provide a high-quality, comprehensive experience that enhances the depth of a traditional book with premium multimedia elements.
Open Air Publishing was founded in May 2011 and is based in New York City.
Jon FeldmanFounder, President, and CEO
Jon is our fearless leader. He has more than seven years of experience in strategy, marketing, and product and business development for digital content and e-commerce. Prior to launching Open Air Publishing, Jon was a management consultant in the Consumer, Media & Digital Group of Booz & Company. Previously, he has led business development and marketing for CollegeHumor Media, as well as built and managed e-commerce for MTV Networks' music and comedy properties. Also, he's Canadian and therefore plays a lot of hockey.
Jon holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, and an MBA from The Wharton School.
Amir CohenVice President of Product Development
Amir is responsible for executing the product vision. He has spent more than five years creating seamless user experience in digital content. As Vice President of Product Development at CollegeHumor Media, he led the design and technology teams for sites like CollegeHumor, Dorkly, and BustedTees. He was also responsible for each site's features and mobile applications, with a focus on user experience design, graphic design, web development, and product management. He can tie his shoes faster than you.
Amir earned his BS in Cognitive Science, Human Computer Interaction at University of California - San Diego, with a minor in Computing in the Arts.
Derrick SchultzVice President of Design
Derrick leads Open Air Publishing's design team with his combined skills as a visual designer and creative coder. His previous design experiences with books (printed!), museum exhibitions, and interaction design have all helped shape his approach to the growing field of digital book design. Prior to joining Open Air Publishing, he consulted for clients as varied as Fox Home Entertainment, Los Angeles Metro, and the Natural History Museum of LA County. He has received awards for his work from numerous industry organizations and publications, and is included in the permanent collection of the Denver Museum of Art.
Derrick earned a BS in Graphic Design from the University of Cincinnati.
Nina Stoller-LindseyProduction Coordinator
Nina brings diverse production experience and a love of words to the process of making new books. Prior to joining Open Air Publishing, Nina was a reporter and fact-checker for New York Magazine and a contributor to Time Out New York. She continues to write for both publications and most enjoys covering quirky cultural topics (think: instrumental jazz covers of Michael Jackson megahits). A former modern dancer-choreographer, Nina has five years of experience in theatrical production and loves the bright lights of photo and video shoots even more than she loves the beach.
Nina earned a BA in English from Harvard University.
Danielle AaronProduction Coordinator
Dani brings her skills as an editor and organization junkie to the production process. Her obsessive-compulsive attention to grammar ensures that our books read clearly and without rogue commas. She is also the voice behind @OpenAirBooks, so say hello sometime! Prior to joining the team, Dani worked for Deluxe Digital Studios as a caption and subtitle editor for film and television. In addition to being an amateur cheesemonger, she also moonlights as an academic editor. Her work includes published PhD theses and specialty journal articles.
Dani earned a BA in Sociology and Communications from McGill University.
David brings his skills as a programmer and multimedia producer to the development process for both web and books. Growing up in a musical family, he first became interested in production through music but quickly took an interest in video and web design. He has worked for Plum TV and with Sony and the Discovery Channel for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, doing both video and web production. David's singing talent is surpassed only by his ability to clear off an entire plate of food before anyone else has picked up a fork. Ladies: Watch out!
David is currently pursuing a Masters in Computer Art at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and earned a BS in Electronic Art from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
