Production Manager

The Production Manager will help increase Open Air Publishing's catalog of titles by taking charge of the creation of several new books. You will act as a project manager/executive producer for these books, guiding the production process--including writing, photography, videography, graphics, and design--from start to finish. This will be a highly collaborative, hands-on experience that will be nothing like the traditional publishing process (in a good way).
Responsibilities
- Hire writers, photographers, video crew, and design talent as needed for each topic; schedule and fully produce video and photo shoots
- Manage freelance writers through the book creation process; assist with structuring and editing the books they write for us
- Manage and organize all creative assets that are incorporated into each book
- Prepare marketing and PR materials to support each title's launch
- Work closely with the design and development team to execute the creative vision
- Brainstorm and pitch new topics with the team
About You
- You have at least three years experience in book, magazine, or online publishing
- You have a bachelor's degree from a top college or university
- You have experience in copy editing, and have an excellent grasp of grammar, usage, and voice
- You have an entrepreneurial spirit, embrace the unknown, and can improvise
- You appreciate good design and user experience
- You are organized and structured, and pay attention to the details, yet also comfortable in an unstructured, evolving startup environment
- You work well in team environments, including in a leadership role
- You love creating things that other people can enjoy (and will pay for); bonus if you've already done it

As our Marketing Manager, you will help promote Open Air Publishing's catalog of titles by taking a quantitative approach to business analysis, strategy, and pricing. You will also help create buzz and traction for our next releases. This will be a highly collaborative, hands-on experience that will be nothing like the traditional publishing process (in a good way).
Responsibilities
- Develop quantitative models and qualitative insights to analyze and optimize performance of our website, paid marketing, social media, SEO, and PR efforts
- Perform competitive analysis to drive decision-making on product content, UX design, and pricing strategy
- Design and execute paid online media campaigns
- Optimize and maintain our brand presence on leading social media channels
- Conceive and execute product launch events, both in-person and online
- Build upon media lists for PR and marketing and take a leading role in outreach
About You
- You have a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or economics, and experience in digital media marketing / communications, including through internships
- You are comfortable using analytics tools like Google Analytics; you can structure quantitative models in Excel and synthesize into actionable items
- You have an innate intellectual curiosity and desire to learn about our new products
- You are already an active user of major social media outlets and have great ideas about how to grow our business; bonus if you're already familiar with the iOS application ecosystem

Backend Developer
Full-time, competitive salary, benefits & company equity, New York City
The Backend Developer will be an integral part of creating and managing technology solutions to support every facet of our business. You will work with our small and talented team to create a suite of tools and processes to increase production efficiency, analyze and predict data sets, and build consumer-facing websites and mobile products. You'll get to tinker with a variety of languages, platforms, and mobile devices. You will also have a strong voice in deciding how to implement projects.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain consumer-facing websites optimized for all screens
- Build and maintain internal admin tools and CMS to support our production processes
- Implement and iterate on new and existing product features
- Research and develop new interactive interfaces and learning patterns
- Build and maintain tools to track, analyze, and predict data sets
- Contribute to the product road map by pitching ideas for tools, products, and processes
Required Skills
- Fluency in Object Oriented Programming (ideally with PHP 5, MySQL and the LAMP stack)
- Expertise with MVC methodologies
- Thorough understanding of HTML5, Javascript, CSS 3, and XML
- A preoccupation with staying on top of industry trends and technologies
Impress Us
- Experience managing servers with Linux or Solaris
- Experience building iOS and/or Android mobile applications
- Experience with e-commerce, credit card authorization, and billing feature
